I hand cast a beautiful old, antique dowry box key using the ancient technique of sand casting, in which molten silver is poured into a cavity of the original key that was pressed into special compacted sand called 'Delft Clay'. (see photos)
 
Set with a 3.5mm faceted, blue/green African Sapphire.
 
The chain is finished with a hand forged decorative hook clasp.
 
Finished with a satiny sheen, with intentional tool markings and PR makers mark.
Patinaed to bring out the beautiful textures. 
 
It's such a unique statement pendant to wear alone, or layered with multiple necklaces.

Sand casting is an ancient metal casting process in which sand is used as the mould material. It dates back to around 4000-3000 BC, in Mesopotamia.

      Take care not to knock or drop your jewellery. Gemstones might look tough, but their hardness can vary greatly from one stone to another.

       

      ​Don't expose your jewellery to chemicals. eg: cleaning products, chlorine, etc. They can be very damaging to gemstones and silver.

       

      ​Remove your jewellery when showering, swimming, exercising and work, such as gardening, household chores, etc.

       

      ​Avoid using commercial jewellery cleaning products. They are too harsh on most gemstones.

       

      When you're not wearing your PR jewels, store in a safe, dry place..
